What causes a cable to snap?
Cables share the lifting load with the torsion spring. When a spring fails, the cable often snaps a day or two later from the uneven stress. When one cable frays, the other is usually 6–12 months behind it. We replace both if they’ve been loaded on the same door for the same number of years.
Important: a cable snap can let the door drop or fall off the track. Do NOT keep using the opener — you risk bigger damage (bent track, twisted shaft, dented panel). Pull the red emergency release cord, leave the door closed, and call us.

Can I drive my car out of the garage with a broken cable?
If the door is stuck partially open: carefully, yes — one person supports the door while you back the car out. If the door is fully closed: no, don’t try to open it until we replace the cable. Pull the manual release cord.
Should I replace one cable or both?
Both, if both have been on the door for more than 5 years. They wear at the same rate. Doing both at once is $219; doing one now and one in 6 months is $149 + $149 = $298.
Is cable repair covered by the spring-repair warranty?
If we install new cables during a spring replacement, they’re covered under the same 1-year parts warranty. Standalone cable-only repairs get their own 1-year warranty.
My door fell off the track completely — can you fix it?
Yes. Minor off-track (one roller out, door still usable): $169. Severe off-track with bent track or drum damage: we inspect on-site and quote before starting. Typical severe off-track repair: $269–$479.
